Hyejin Song is a graphic designer working in identity system, motion graphics, and illustration. She recently graduated from School of Visual Arts. Previously she worked at Apple as an intern and currently at PORTOROCHA.

Sushi Utensil Book Design

Based on a documentary film called Jiro Dreams of Sushi, I designed a sushi utensil book to highlight their spirit. The film follows Jiro Ono, the most famous sushi master, who runs a sushi-only restaurant in Japan. It is an intimate view of personalities, craft, culture, and philosophy: all anchored in one man’s singular ideology.

In the film they talk about a craftmenship and a Shokunin which means a specialist. It means that the way of Shokunin is to repeat the same thing everyday. Each members repeat their responsibility using specified tools everyday.
